Ricoh Asia Pacific has set the goal of being powered by 100% renewable energy in two years’ time.

According to the OEM, Ricoh Company, Ltd. announced the plan to become more environmentally friendly in April. The Singapore office for Ricoh Asia Pacific took the initiative by switching to 25% clean energy on the 20th June. They predict to be powered by 50% clean energy this time next year, and expect this figure to rise to 100% by 2019.

Mr. Kazuhisa Goto, Managing Director of Ricoh Asia Pacific, explained Ricoh’s environmental decision, “As the regional headquarter in the Asia Pacific region, we recognized that business activities depended greatly on natural resources and the global eco systems. We also realized that environmental issues such as global warming and limited natural resources present both risks and opportunities for businesses, so it is important for us to strive for a balance on conservation activities with business sustainability to ensure the betterment of the environment.”

Ricoh is the first Japanese company to join the RE100, a group of significant companies that are committed to 100% renewable power. Ricoh Group as a whole is committed to using a minimum of 30% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% by 2050.

Mr. Goto elaborated, “Ricoh Asia Pacific wants to keep the momentum going as the leading regional headquarter. Given that our operation in this region are mainly the offices, it is not easy for us to find renewable sources without the need to install the solar panels. Despite so, we will continue to look out for prospective energy provider to power renewable source to other sales companies in this region in the near future.”
