The second quarter report for global large format printer shipment shows a strong performance.
According to the report released by IDC, the large format printer (LFP) shipments and hardware revenue both saw a year-on-year growth in 2Q2016 of 3.90% and 7% respectively. The shipments of the large format CAD/Technical printer market segment climbed over 7.5% in the second quarter of 2016, and over 4.5% in the first half of the same year. Despite the low sales in Asia/Pacific (Japan excluded), the shipment growth in North America, Europe, Middle East as well as Africa (EMEA) has balanced the loss.
The total shipment for the large format graphics declined 2% in the second three-months in 2016 compared to the same period last year. However, its revenue actually went up 0.8% with the market shifting towards more productive printing systems.
Tim Greene, the research director at IDC for U.S. Large Format Printer Tracker, stated, «On a worldwide basis the second quarter is often the slowest quarter of the year for large format printer shipments. If that holds true then 2016 should be a very good year for the large format printer market. Recovery in technology categories like eco-solvent and toner-based printers have run counter to some of the market trends over the past few quarters to create a bit of a surprisingly strong Q2.»
In addition, HP, Canon, Epson, Roland DG and Mimaki, sequentially, continued to be the top 5 global suppliers in the first half of this year.
