IDC: Global LFP Shipments Grew Slightly in Q1 2016

24.06.2016 Marketing

As reported by the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Large Format Printer Tracker, global large format printer (LFP) shipments grew 1.2% year over year (YOY) in Q1 2016 (1Q16) with an increase of nearly 7% in hardware revenue.

Shipments in the large format CAD/Technical printer market segment increased by 1.6% YOY in 1Q16 while hardware revenue registered a growth of 13.2%. Much of this growth was attributed to HP PageWide and KIP 800-series color printers.

Total shipments in the large format graphics segment were up by 0.6% YOY while revenue increased 2.8% over the same period. The durable graphics segment drove the growth with a global increase of more than 9.5% geared by UV-curable inkjet, Latex, eco-solvent, and dye-sublimation inkjet printers.

In terms of vendor performance, the top five global suppliers in 2015, in order, HP, Canon, Seiko Epson, Roland DG, and Mimaki, all maintained their ranking in Q1 2016.

HP dominated large format CAD/technical and Latex segments and had almost twice the total market share of any other vendor in the large format business. Canon, combined with Oce, increased its large format printer shipment share from 18.8% to over 20% YOY. Epson introduced new eco-solvent printers in 4Q15 to help grow its LFP share revenue. But the decline in its low-end aqueous inkjet printers offset the share increase in Q1 2016. Ranking 4th in global large format printer shipments , Roland DG continues to be the top supplier for durable graphics printers. Mimaki launched new UV, eco-solvent and dye-sublimation printers in 4Q15 and 1Q16, and achieved an increase in shipments as well as market share.
