The global printer market continued its powerful year-over-year growth at the rate of 7.9% in the first quarter of 2016, which signaled its sixteenth successive positive growth quarter. The WQPPT (Worldwide Quarterly Production Printer Tracker) of the IDC (International Data Corporation) showed the value of unit shipment in Q1 had increased to around $1.2 billion, with a growth rate of 1.4%.

Other highlights of the global production printer market in Q1 of 2016 are as follows:

  1. The unit shipments of Label & Packaging and Mid Production increased 18.8% and 11.5% respectively in the Q1 of 2016 compared with the same period of 2015.
  2. In units shipped, Ricoh Group gained 28.8% year-over-year profits, which exceeded the other four of the top five vendors.

The research manager of Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions, Amy Machado, stated, «Print service providers (PSPs) continued to invest in the first quarter with no holding off purchases or waiting to see what new products are coming at the world’s largest print show in Dusseldorf this month. That could foretell very good things for both the second quarter and the second half of the year, as PSPs jump on new technologies, especially when it comes to high-quality color laser and inkjet.»
