With deep concern for the environment, Ricoh has developed a new reclaimed material for use in manufacturing its Next Generation MFPs.

The new material, jointly developed by NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN CHEMICAL CO., LTD. and Ricoh, will use plastic packaging containers collected in compliance with the Containers/Packaging Recycling Act, as well as plastics collected in accordance with the Act for Recycling of Specified Kinds of Home Appliances. In addition, technology from GREEN CYCLE SYSTEM CORPORATION ensures that impurities are eliminated.

According to the OEM, the newly developed material is classified as high grade plastic material and has improved fire retardancy and strength, due to the reforming technology from NIPPON STEEL & SUMIKIN CHEMICAL and recycling materials evaluation technology from Ricoh.

Generally speaking, the quality of plastic materials deteriorate with each regeneration, however, Ricoh managed to develop a recycled material that maintains quality with the support of its technology for evaluating the material in accordance with long-term deterioration criteria.

Ricoh believes that using the newly developed reclaimed material and the recycled material (i.e. reclaimed material from Ricoh’s products collected in closed loop recycling) will help increase the rate of recycled material used in its MFPs.
