Printing “as crucial to businesses as ever”

A survey by Epson Europe found that printers “are a crucial feature” of office life across Europe.

The survey, reported on by Misco, was undertaken by Epson Europe, which commissioned an independent survey of over 3,600 European employees, and found that 83 percent believe a paperless office is “unrealistic”, while 64 percent said they’d rather “read reports and brochures on printed paper”.

Of these 64 percent, 53 percent said they would rather print as “they could share or hand them out”, while 44 percent and 41 percent respectively said they’d print because of reading or editing and annotating “more easily”. In turn, another 62 percent said “errors are more likely when editing an electronic document as opposed to a printout”.

Misco noted that the survey seems to suggest that printers “are a crucial feature of office life” and “crucial to businesses”, despite technological advancements, with 86 percent of UK respondents saying that a ban on printing would “limit their productivity”. The site added that the “opportunity for a chat next to the printer is not about to disappear any time soon”, and that the survey “shatter[s] the environmentalist vision of a paperless office”.

Rob Clark, Senior Vice President of Epson Europe, commented: “It is clear from our research that – despite digital advances – people still like to work with paper, preferring print rather than working on-screen for certain tasks. When it comes to reading, editing and sharing documents like reports, emails and attachments, office workers, from baby boomers to millennials, still prefer the tangible printed version.”
