China was the fastest-growing origin of patent applications in Europe again last year, according to an annual report released by the European Patent Office.

As reported by China Daily, the number of European patent applications in 2015 grew by 4.8% to about 160,000. China, ranked eighth on the list, filed 5,721 patent applications in 2015, registering an increase of 22.2% from 2014 and making it the fastest growing origin.

EPO President Benoit Battistelli said the impressive growth from China represented the nation’s dynamic innovation and demand for overseas development.

China’s imaging industry, which has been led by innovation giants like Print-Rite and Ninestar, has made its contribution to this result. With up to 2,500 patents, Print-Rite has kept investing heavily in R&D and its patent application number has been increased by more than 12% annually. More than 70% of its products are protected by patents. It believes that a company can only remain vibrant for prosperity if it is investing in evolving technology innovations.
