The Actual Issues of Cyber-Security in the Field of Office Printing

Moscow, March 29, 2022 — Information Agency “Business-Inform” and the Association of Quality Consumables Manufacturers and Suppliers presented the new results of the research on office printing equipment vulnerabilities as well as the recommendations on their removal.

The Information Agency “Business-Inform” and the Association of Quality Consumables Manufacturers and Suppliers (AQCMS) organized and held the Conference, on March 29th this year, The Actual Issues of Cyber-Security in the Field of Office Printing. During the Conference the new results of the research on office printing equipment vulnerabilities found in Russian and International organizations as well as the recommendations on their removal were presented. A special attention was paid towards the issues of the usage of the document workflow systems (IT-outsourcing, MPS, using newly built and remanufactured cartridges) in the environment of sanctions. The Conference was held in hybrid-format (physical presence and on-line). It saw participation by the representatives of 214 Russian businesses and organizations, as well as the leading Russian experts and the field of the information security.

During the Conference 3 reports were heard:

  • “Printers, Copiers, MFPs and Cartridges – the Sources of  Vulnerabilities. The Audit of Printing Devices in Russian Organizations during 2021-2022: the Results, Conclusions and Recommendations” (the reporter — Stanislav Malinskiy, The Russian University of Transport)

The Report Theses: Office printing and it’s organizing: legal, administrative, and program-technical aspects; micro-program, system, and applied software: the vulnerabilities open and hidden, methods of passive and active protection; the leading manufacturing-brands of printing devices and the policies in the field of providing information safety; printing devices Brother, Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Lexmark, Ricoh, Xerox – the vulnerabilities are known and published, why aren’t they removed; the vaccination doesn’t guarantee the protection against the viruses; the passive and actives protection measures and legislative restrictions on their use; the audit of printing devices in Russian organizations in 2021-2022: the main results and conclusions.

  • “The Procurement and Usage of Printing Devices in the Sanctional Environment: New Suppliers, New Ways to organize the Supplies and Payments, New Issues of Information Safety” (the reporters – Stanislav Malinskiy, Alina Savinova, “Business-Inform” Group)

The Report Theses: 2022 sanctions and their consequences to the Russian market, Russian companies and organizations; sanctions – a driver for the industry of remanufacturing printing devices and supplies; are the intellectual property rights being reserved in the Sanctional conditions and who actually keeps them; new suppliers: we are presenting to you the printing devices by new Chinese brands: the testing of quality, sustainability and cyber-security. The conditions and volumes of supplying in 2022; the issues of information and cyber security must be solved before the supply starts; 2022-2023 tendencies and perspectives for the Russian market.

  • “The Quality Leaders – We Are Presenting to You the Products of Static Control, Mitsubishi, Imex, Integral, HYB Toner, UNITON Premium Green Line” (the reporter – Alina Savinova, “Business-Inform” Group)

The Report Theses: The Russian testing of printing supplies quality: methods, accredited laboratories, testing done during 2020-2022 and the results; the Quality leaders on the Russian market, their production sites and products: we are presenting to you the products by Static Control, Mitsubishi, Imex, Integral, HYB Toner, UNITON Premium Green Line and their Russian suppliers.

The participants of the Conference discussed together with the speakers the provided information, the research results on vulnerabilities of office printing devices found in Russian and International organizations in 2021-2022, as well as recommendations on their removal. They also paid special attention towards the issue of planning and organizing the procurement of the printing devices and supplies in the Sanctional environment.

As a nice surprise for all the Conference participants came the new issue of BUSINESS-INFORM Review magazine (issue #34, 2022) and its appendix “Testing and Quality” (March, 2022).

According to the request done by the Conference participants, the next Conference: “New Brands of Printing Devices – Model Ranges, Perspectives, Testing and Quality Evaluation” will be organized on March 31st, and will be held in hybrid mode (physical presence  and online) format.
