When various reports are showing the fact that the turnover of the industry is decreasing, GfK sees the potential.
According to Aldo de Smedt from GfK, the turnover of the global market showed a slight decline, down 5.9% in the first half of the year. The value of the print consumables captured 65% of the global market during this period, while the value of printing devices marked 35%. Likewise, both original and non-original consumables in the global market were slightly declining over the same period. The value of the original supplies still captured 89.8% of the global market, while non-original consumables only registered 10.2%.
Also, de Smedt pointed out that even though the average prices for laser and ink cartridges are declining, business ink, CISS and internet sales are growing in all regions. And the multifunctional devices drive the market, specifically leading a higher color consumables potential.
Despite the decline, de Smedt found that the printing industry is moving towards higher volume, lower costs, faster speed and better quality. He believes there are some potential areas for growth, such as business ink, laser MFD basic, Internet business, high yielded cartridges, etc.
Just as Aldo de Smedt says, «We are in a tough environment, but we have hope.»
